As an ex coach and now an administrator, I found the officials for this game were unbelievable. Their physical conditioning and ability to maneuver was quite evident causing obvious problems to be in position to make calls. The "white hat" was not able to catch the "dry ball" thrown in from the sidelines due to what seemed to be an abnormal arm/hand. The back judge could hardly walk must less run. In no way is this meant to be critical of those individual with handicaps but to inform those reading this post that any individual not fully capable of avoiding injury while performing refereeing duties, should not and must be sensible enough to walk away when they cannot do the job due to personal reasons. We must always remember it isn't about "me", money, or the love of the game, but with officiating it is about performing at a level so student/athletes receive a "good called game". The hard work put in by student/athletes and coaching staffs should not be discredited by incapable officials. Tonight, two excellent coached high school football teams, representing their school communities, received below par officiating causing both schools difficult situations to overcome. For those not in attendance, there were only 4 officials (not 5 like in VA) and due to their inabilities, there were really only 2. High school football rules are sanction by the National Federation of High Schools, and the rules of the game are different by state to state. Eligibility rules are different but not game rules. Regardless of the capabilities and/or abilities of last night officials, it was an embarrassment whether you were a Clintwood or Shelby Valley fan.
The white hat was a joke. Not only was he a tubby tub of shit, he's the one that called the personal foul that led to the FG. The qb was about to get out of an ankle tackle, he was standing 5 yards away with his hands on his knees watching, a lb (I think) comes in and cleans up the play with a good hit to take him down, and he throws a flag for unnecessarry roughness when a whistle was never blown. He's the jackass that calls the sideline flag for Rick being at the sideline giving Tre the play. And unless I'm mistaken he's the one that called the holding call on Clintwood on the INT return from the endzone, when there was nobody within 10 yards of where he threw the flag and where they enforced the flag. He was the epitome of the word joke.

Actually on the Int they called a block in the back, then a personal foul if I'm thinking right. But Ahh I'll give some of the things that were highlights of the night to me.
Our player had a helmet problem, he's trying to fix it and an assistant coach yelling 'get his ass off the field' (that one annoyed me bad but that was the only bad representation so I'll not judge the whole but a slip up)
Us trying to yell that the clock didn't stop, near the half (it was still running) on a first down. When we yelled the clock isn't stopped, they gave us a timeout. When it was said we didn't want a time out we was trying to get someone to notice the clock, the official on the field said tell someone else I got too many things I have to keep up with (or something along those lines, I may have messed up the wording but that was pretty much what he said).
One official on the field knowing when we take the penalty on a kick out of bounds that its a 5 yard penalty.
Literally screaming at the ballboys to stay off the field. With the amount of rain, trying to keep a dry ball was important but I don't think we were able to all night due to this mess. If one was lolly gagging or something then I could have seen it but the only time they slowed down was when sheriff roscoe p contrane out there stared yelling and they thought they had screwed up.
As for the flag on unnecessary roughness, it was one of those that probably should never have been called but there was a leading with the helmet...of course it was over to the side and the person who lead never touched anybody but ahhhh I guess the intent of the rule was valid.
The fumble that was or wasn't. It was one of those that was so obvious it was sad. Even the guy who fumbled it was hitting himself in the head for fumbling it. Nobody on it but Clintwood players, no whistle, no struggle for the ball and the white hat said he said we had it but was overruled by the mouth of the south in the middle of the field.
I guess one of my biggest problems was the whistle or lack thereof, plays were allowed to extend forever. Then when you have a fumble or soemthing like that, there wasn't. The guys seemed like nice enough people, but I would symathize for a few of that crew as some of them were just absolutely incompetent. Not bad, just sad. And this isn't me saying it because some went against us, the Shelby Valley people that I spoke to were literally throwing them under the bus talking about how bad some of them were and that they didn't know the rules. One guy said be thankful we them officiating a football game because as bad as they are in that, they were worse in basketball.
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

Another thing I noticed late in the 4th, I heard a guy behind me say to someone who was with him "Watch this when they spot the ball, the guy in the white hat will move it back.". We ran the ball, the two side judges spot the ball at the 31, white hat runs up and moves the ball backward a yard and a half. He kept doing it after that, it was 3 out of every 5 plays he'd respot the ball after the side judges spotted it. The guy said he'd been doing it all night.
